EdisonGlow™ technology removes the need to loop a power supply line through a remote switch. For example, a ceiling light in a room is usually supplied with power from a cable connected to a wall-mounted on/off switch. With EdisonGlow™ the power cable is taken only to the light fitting or electrical appliance.

No Power Consumption at Switch

EdisonGlow™ requires only a very low cost wall switch plate to be fitted at any location to activate a light or appliance located up to 100m* away. EdisonGlow™ does not require any batteries, piezo disks or RF transmission devices embedded in the wall plate. To switch on a light using EdisonGlow™ technology, the wall-mounted EdisonGlow™ switch is simply pushed to the 'on' position, the same as a normal switching operation.

Competing Systems

Some 'wireless' switches available at hardware stores use a battery (some use 12v, some 9v and others AAA batteries) as the power source at the wall switch to transmit a radio frequency signal from the switch to a receiver in a light or appliance located within about 15 meters (50 feet) of the RF transmitter device. A user can select from a limited number of RF channels. These products are more expensive than standard light switches.

Practical Alternative

EdisonGlow™ on the other hand uses a proprietary miniature electronic circuit inside the light fitting or appliance. The circuit transmits a tiny pulse of invisible photons around a room. The pulses, also known as modulations, are reflected back to the light fitting or appliance by the wall-mounted plastic switch. If the switch is toggled in another direction the lights will either turn on or off depending on the orientation of the circuit inside the light or appliance.

The value of this technology is not just in the embedded intelligence that adds to the value of a fitting, but primarily in the savings made by avoiding the need to loop switching wires through wall cavities. The technology provides significant weight savings for vehicles, ships and aircraft, as photons have no mass.

EdisonGlow™ Applications

  • Locate switches on any surface - marble entranceways, log homes, glass, stone, etc - without having to drill holes or run wires
  • Rewire old villas and commercial buildings where access to remote switches is difficult
  • Remote control of lights and equiptment (including television) up to a distance of 100m
  • Safer switching in wet areas
  • Reduced electrical cabling throughout all new buildings
  • Reduced electrical cabling in aircraft, ships or vehicles

EdisonGlow™ Advantages

  • Increased energy efficiency and energy savings
  • Significantly lower wiring cost
  • No batteries, wires or power at wall switch plate
  • No RF channel
  • Reduced electricity seepage costs at switch
  • Reduced contractor installation time and costs
  • No radio frequency limitations (ie some switches use RF controllers - however due to RF frequency overlaps these are limited)
  • The world's first true passive remote switching technology
